ZipBackup – Backup Data as ZIP Archives
Backing up your data, especially your important data, is always a good idea and I will tell you why. If something were to go wrong – your computer was compromised, your hardware fails – you can rest assured that you did not loose your important data since you have the backup. Director of Technical Education with Eset, Randy Abrams says it best: “if your data is important enough to put on a hard drive, be sure you back it up.”
There are numerous applications out there that can help you backup your data. Out of them all I would like to draw attention to the ZipBackup Inc-developed, the aptly named ZipBackup. Here is the functionality you can expect to get from ZipBackup:
- Backup data as ZIP archives to save space.
- Data can be backed up to the hard drive, to a CD, DVD, network, or other storage device.
- Wizard guides you though the steps you need to take to backup your data. The Wizard makes using ZipBackup a piece of cake.
- Incremental and differential backups.
- Filter backups by file type, files size or the date a file was last changed
- Define backup jobs
- Schedule backup tasks to run automatically
- Smart Restore technology that recognizes standard Windows folders and restores files to their proper location (even on a PC that runs a different version of Windows).
- Detailed reports of backups and restores
Before you go get ZipBackup and put it to the test, take a look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 1.2MB, which is good news. It means it will only take a moment to get ZipBackup off the web and onto your computer.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, ZipBackup provides support for Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista.
Limitations – you can use ZipBackup free of charge for a trial period of 30 days. Once that trial period is over, you will have to get a license to keep using ZipBackup.
